Undefeated at Twickenham!

Old Street Vets ran out onto rugby's most famous field and after three games left undefeated as part of the Injured Players Foundation's Vets Day.

Drawn in a group against Teddington RFC and Evesham RFC we defeated our friends from south of the river, before strong resistance from Evesham on the edge of the 22m for most of the 15 minute match ended in a fiercely competitive 0-0 draw (not our first famous scoreless draw).

Finishing second in the group on points difference, we played Wasps - a name not unfamiliar to HQ - in our 10-minute each-way Playoff Final. After a try each way, the clock was running down under glorious May sunshine.

A ball was kicked forward deep into the Wasps half, as it continued to roll and roll before Oli Smalley was the first to pounce on it as it entered the dead ball area, score the try, secure the win and kick start a well lubricated afternoon and evening.

The day was brilliant organised by the Injured Players Foundation - the RFU's charity which looks to offer support to players who suffer catastrophic injury while playing rugby. We're delighted we were able to raise £30,100 - if you have anything spare you can still chip in here.

For reference, this is how your money will be spent:

  • £40 a month pays for a gym membership to support a player’s rehab and recovery

  • £200 funds a wheelchair service or repair

  • £1,000 funds a PA for a month so that studying for a degree is possible

  • £2,000 makes a garden accessible
